The Department of Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is home to a diverse array of research projects led by our surgical faculty in collaboration with basic, translational, clinical, data, and population health scientists across the institution. Active research endeavors in the Department include investigations of burn management, cardiac preservation, coagulation biology, esophageal health, healthcare disparities, surgical oncology, transplant access and outcomes, transfusion strategies after injury, and management of vascular surgical conditions. Our research mission is deeply motivated by our goals of improving healthcare quality and access for Mississippians, and educating and mentoring the next generation of clinicians and researchers. Innovations linked to our research mission start here at UMMC, but have impacts that extend regionally, nationally, and globally.

We invite you to explore our faculty research interests, research education and support services, and recent research highlights.
